7/08/07 - - The Town of Republic...
We finished this pass and wound up on the town of Republic last night. While finishing the pass two bicyclists stopped while we were resting alongside the road and asked, "how did you guys get here?" When we told them we pedaled up over the pass they looked at our 12' long rig and said, "man, you guys have big Kahonnies" - - not sure what that meant but they gave us a thumbs up so I guess that was good. (Hawaiian maybe?) Republic is a charming little western / pioneer type town the people are quite friendly - - their pace is slow (as is the case with allot of these towns compared to we NorCal folks). We stopped at a diner and had some real food - - Chicken Enchillada, rice and our first fresh greens since we left home...great!

Our Goal
On July 1st 2007, we began our cross-country "Trek for Breast Cancer" in Anacortes, Washington. We will pedal about 4,500 miles, over the Rockies, follow the northern part of the United States, drop south beginning in Iowa and finish in New York City. If we average 75 miles per day, it will take about two months to complete. We are self-contained carrying all our gear, spare bike parts, food & water in our trailer, and on our backs.
Our goal is to make a $25,000 contribution to "Sisters Foundation Fighting Breast Cancer." It is a non-profit foundation providing financial and emotional support to breast cancer patients. They provide many crucial services and support to enable individuals fighting breast cancer to avail themselves of medical treatment and resume their lives, cancer free. Their commitment and accomplishments are inspiring.
